Polar expedition camping involves spending a night ashore — usually on snow or ice — during an Arctic or Antarctic cruise. Campers are transported from the ship by Zodiac to a designated campsite where they set up simple bivy bags or, on some voyages, small expedition tents.

This is a minimalist, environmentally responsible wilderness experience. There are no fires, no permanent structures, and no modern comforts. The goal is full immersion: sleeping beneath the polar sky, listening to distant wildlife and shifting ice, and experiencing true polar silence.
