Overview

This is the perfect option for those guests wanting to spend the maximum amount of time exploring the colourful coral gardens of the World Heritage-listed Great Barrier Reef. Enjoy a full day to discover two different sections of the rarely visited Ribbon Reefs, considered to be the most colourful and pristine reefs found anywhere along the entire length of the Great Barrier Reef, as well as the wonderful fringing reefs off Lizard Island and Two Isles. You will also have the opportunity to explore historic Cooktown and savour a full morning discovering spectacular Lizard Island.
DAY 1: CAIRNS Board at Cairns Cruise Liner Terminal at 4:00pm, cruising Trinity Bay with welcome drinks and views of Double Island and the pretty seaside village at Palm Cove. This evening a Captain’s Welcome Seafood Buffet. DAY 2: COOKTOWN AND THE GREAT BARRIER REEF Discover historic Cooktown, stroll the wide main street and see buildings dating back to the 1870s. Walk to the botanic gardens where you may see kangaroos and wallabies and visit James Cook Museum to see original artefacts from his ship ‘Endeavour’. This afternoon snorkel over the reef on a desert island, with glass bottom boat tours and optional SCUBA diving. DAY 3: LIZARD ISLAND AND RIBBON REEFS Enjoy the morning on Lizard Island, one of Australia’s most beautiful tropical islands. Discover the legend of Mary Watson and snorkel from the beach over giant clam gardens. Optional early morning hike to Cook’s Look for stunning views over the reef. This afternoon at Ribbon Reef #9 on the rarely visited outer Barrier Reef, with snorkelling and SCUBA diving and glass bottom boat tours. DAY 4: RIBBON REEFS Full day to discover the pristine Ribbon Reefs, with Ribbon Reef #3 and Rachel Carson Reef. Snorkelling, optional SCUBA diving, or glass bottom boat tours with the Marine Biologist and a marine biology presentation at the onboard display tank. DAY 5: CAIRNS Cruise concludes at Cairns Cruise Liner Terminal at 8:00am. Note: This itinerary is an indication of the destinations we visit and activities on offer. Throughout the expedition we may make changes to the itinerary as necessary to maximise your expeditionary experience. Small enough to allow snorkelling directly from the ship, yet equipped with the facilities of a much larger vessel, your cruise aboard Coral Expeditions II will be truly memorable. Coral Expeditions II is an Australian-flagged, Australian-crewed classic catamaran designed and built for maximum stability and guest comfort. With a shallow draught and high manoeuvrability, she can go where large cruise ships cannot.

Accommodating just 44 guests, Coral Expeditions II has an intimate, informal atmosphere. The 22 onboard rooms range from 14 to 15 square metres, are comfortable with natural light, iPod docks, en-suites, and are serviced daily. Coral Expeditions II’s spacious lounge is a great place to relax and enjoy a drink from the cocktail bar in air-conditioned comfort, and features a comprehensive reference library and plasma screens. The large Sun Deck is another popular place to relax and take in the sights, with comfortable deck chairs and stylish teak furnishings.

Coral Expeditions II carries a glass bottom coral viewing boat, and a complement of Zodiacs and kayaks that are used in our expedition itineraries.

Deposits Reservations require a deposit of 20% per person at the time you receive a booking confirmation from Expeditions Online. A payment link will be sent to you and this may be paid by major credit card. Bookings within 90 days of departure require full payment. Voyage rates are quoted based on passengers sharing a cabin. Contact us for sole use rates. Share Policy Accommodation on the Ship is based on twin share occupancy. If you are travelling alone and wish to share accommodation, a room mate will be assigned to your cabin whenever possible. When pairing room mates we always pair participants of the same sex. Final Payments Balances are due 90 days prior to departure. Balance payments may be paid by bank transfer, or on request by credit card (subject to a 2% surcharge). Cancellations All requests for cancellation must be received in writing to Expeditions Online. Cancellations schedule is as follows: Up to 90 days prior to departure – forfeit your deposit. 60 to 89 days prior to departure – forfeit 50% of the fare. 1 to 59 days prior to departure – forfeit 100% of the fare. We strongly recommend that all passengers purchase cruise cancellation and interruption insurance as protection against any circumstance which may force you to cancel or leave an expedition whilst it is in progress.
